ANDEAN ENERGY: A CHANGING LANDSCAPE FOR INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Shifting market fundamentals, business environments, and political and economic trends across the Andean region have resulted in a rapidly changing landscape for investment opportunities. The consolidation of emerging geopolitical trends has radically influenced investment flows, not only from country to country but also along the hydrocarbon value chain for exotic liquids, conventional resources, and natural gas. The diverging agendas, priorities, and interests of the various resource holders have jeopardized the attractiveness of business opportunities across the region. A clear view of the key challenges, risks, and value creation potential for existing and emerging investment options is crucial in anticipating and responding to these ongoing shifts in the industry.

CERA will assess the feasibility of investment plans for exotic liquids— ethanol and extra heavy oil—and natural gas across the region, comparing and ranking monetization strategies according to their value, challenges, risks, and upside potential. The analysis will be used to evaluate growth potential and offer insights into the productive capacity outlook. We will also examine Venezuela ’s oil diplomacy and discuss the motivations, economic cost, and long-term sustainability of this strategy, as well as its impact on growth and new developments in the region.
